It is edible and can grow up to 30 cm tall,
flowering from July to October.
The young flower buds, flowers and fruits are edible,
as are the stems and leaves,
which are cooked like asparagus.
The above-ground parts of the plant
are used as food and herbal medicine.
Harvest young leaves and stems during spring and summer.
